LGFX Brings Fire & Light to a Private Diwali Celebration in Kirkland, WA

This October, Lion Gypzi Fire Experience (LGFX) had the incredible honor of performing at a beautifully intimate Diwali celebration in Kirkland, Washington. What began as a simple entertainment inquiry quickly transformed into a breathtaking evening of fire, movement, cultural symbolism, and community.

The Inquiry That Started It All 

The celebration began taking shape when we received a message from the host, Mitika:

"Hi there! We have a Diwali party at our home on Oct 18th and I was thinking to have someone perform for us — your profile sounds so versatile. Are you available and what kind of performance would you be able to do? The weather is unpredictable… we do have a covered deck and may put up a tent."

She asked if we could create something Diwali-themed, incorporate Hindi and Indian music, and include elements like fire bubbles. After sharing videos, customizing ideas, and discussing the flow of the evening, she expressed how much she wanted the performance to feel respectful, vibrant, and aligned with the Festival of Lights. We assured her that LGFX specializes in culturally mindful entertainment and often tailors performances specifically for holidays such as Hanukkah, Christmas, and other celebrations where tradition plays an important role.

Honoring Diwali Through Fire

Diwali, known worldwide as the Festival of Lights, symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, renewal over stagnation, and hope over despair. It is a time when families gather, offer blessings, light diyas, and invite prosperity and clarity for the year to come. Fire aligns naturally with the meaning of Diwali, making it a powerful medium for storytelling, ritual, and celebration.

To honor this, we crafted a performance that opened with a gentle invocation encouraging guests to bless one another as they lit their diyas. The first flames of the show were ignited using these guest-offered lights, creating a moment of collective intention that set the tone for the entire evening.

A Perfect Washington Evening

Anyone who knows Washington in October knows that rain is almost guaranteed. During our site visit, the skies were grey and unpredictable. Yet on the night of the celebration, something magical happened — the rain stopped completely. The performance took place in the family’s backyard overlooking the water, and the atmosphere was pure serenity. The timing felt intentional, as though the night itself made space for the celebration.

A Diwali Fire Experience Tailored for the Family

We curated a full Indian-inspired soundtrack, blending Bollywood classics and modern Hindi music to pair with each act. The show unfolded with a sensual and elegant belly dance, a commanding trident performance symbolizing strength and purification, and a fire breath dance filled with intensity and spiritual grounding. Guests were then invited to join us for a “Circle of Light” moment, where fire bubbles filled the air and laughter carried across the backyard.

Every detail — from the colors we wore to the music, flow, and rituals — was intentionally chosen to honor the meaning of Diwali and the family hosting it.

A Celebration That Turned Into Community
 

After the performance, the family invited us to stay for food, conversation, and the continuation of the festivities. Just as we stepped inside, the rain returned, as if the universe had held it back just long enough for Diwali to shine. It was one of those moments that reminds us why we love this work: entertainment becomes connection, and connection becomes memory.
